Green, Blue and White

Green, Blue, and White | City and Burbs

I hope I don’t jinx us but it looks like we’re finally out of tights weather.  Yay to bare legs!

I have to admit that I haven’t worn this lovely cardigan as much as would have liked since I got it last year during the Webster @ Target event.  But doing some spring cleaning this weekend, I rediscovered it and decided to put it to good use.  I love this color combination — it’s just so springy!

Red and Black

There is nothing to spice up an otherwise plain outfit like a statement necklace.  I love the fit of these pants and the fit of this sweater but it just wasn’t pulled together until I added this black and white necklace I got over the weekend in the city.

Women in Technology

Dots on Dots | City and Burbs

I work for a fantastic company. Because of some of my day to day struggles, I may forget from time to time, but events like the one I attended yesterday definitely remind me. Yesterday, our company had it’s 2nd annual Women in Technology Forum for employees. It was hosted in San Jose but there were dozens of satellite locations around the world that tuned in via video including NYC (yay technology!) We heard from our leadership, both male and female, received amazing advice on how to keep moving forward in our careers, and had a frank discussion about Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In (which is at the top of my Amazon wish list.) Additionally, it gave us an opportunity to meet and get to know colleagues that we don’t typically interact with. So many amazing action items came from just one day of mind share — it was great!

We also had a very enlightening discussion about executive presence that strengthened our commitment to this blog. According to a study by the Center for Talent Innovation the three aspects of executive presence are appearance, communication, and gravitas. City and Burbs may be a fashion blog on the surface but our intent is to inspire women to dominate the ‘appearance’ aspect. Every day (okay maybe every other day or a couple times a week), we aim to demonstrate a polished and professional look that exudes confidence and executive presence and we hope that’s what you get. It’s why we started the Wear to Work Blog Collective and why despite our very busy lives, Diana and I still find some time for this blog. So, we hope you keep reading and if you have any thoughts to share, please discuss in the comments.
